It is an honor to us that you are considering our practice for yourself, your family or a friend. I knew from a fairly young age that I wanted to spend my life handing out hope, I just wasn't always certain exactly what that would look like. While in college at Oklahoma State University working for my bachelors in Sociology, I worked as a summer counselor at Kanakuk Kamps. I remained there after graduation for four years to serve on the Leadership Team and attend Doulos Ministries Discipleship Training Program. There I worked at Shelterwood, a licensed Christian residential teen treatment facility. It was the toughest yet most rewarding training there is. And it set me on a path that led to where I am today.
I spent 11 years in private practice with Family Resource Group of Eastern Oklahoma. Prior to joining that group of clinicians I worked as a psychiatric technician at Brookhaven Hospital, a DHS social worker, the manager of pizza place and mowed lawns in order to finance getting my Master's degree in Social Work from the University of Oklahoma. After graduation I worked in various community mental health facilities as a therapist, case-manager, and social worker. I spent 9 1/2 years as the director of outpatient services for Shadow Mountain Behavioral Health. I have taught Psychology and Social Work classes as an adjunct professor at Tulsa Community College and St. Gregory's University. I have enjoyed the learning, the teaching and the growing in all of these years.
As a clinician, I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and a member of the National Association of Social Workers. I enjoy working with relational issues such as boundaries, pre-marital and marital counseling as well as abuse recovery. I have extensive experience with teenagers and young adults in the areas of depressive disorders, identity issues and managing life's milestones. I also work with dissociative disorders and overcoming trauma. I am trained in Equine Assisted Psychotherapy through EAGALA where horses are utilized in the process of recovery. I enjoy public speaking, photography and writing as a means to convey the adventures in my life.....because I hope life is always an adventure!
Here's to your adventure,
Missy
