I am also a certified yoga instructor and completed my training through the Living Yoga Program in Austin, Texas. I have completed many continuing educatin hours in Mindfulness Based therapies. I have also completed traing through the International OCD Foundation in their Behavior Therapy Training Institute. I am a firm believer in the Mind Body connection in addressing mental, emotional, physical, relational, and spiritual health.
After graduating from Harding University with a Bachelor of Social Work degree in 1988, I worked for two years primarily in child welfare. I worked for a year doing child abuse investigations for the state of Arkansas and a year as a Psychiatric Technician on the Children's Unit at Charter Lakeside in Memphis, Tennessee. The child abuse investigations job was -hands down- the most difficult! I think I lasted 10 months. At that point, I returned to academics completing a Master’s degree in Social Work from the University of Tennessee in Memphis in 1992. After graduate school, my husband Jon and I moved to Tulsa in 1992 to be closer to my family. We had our eldest son that year and our younger son a year later. As a family, we strive to place family and faith first and careers second. We, like many families, are challenged by this ongoing balancing act. Since moving to Tulsa, I worked with Hope Harbor (formerly Turley Children's Home) and Brookhaven Psychiatric Hospital. While at Brookhaven, I worked with patients in both the general psychiatric unit and the eating disorders unit. It was there that I discovered how much I enjoyed treating patients in a faith based setting and how much I enjoyed working with the eating disordered population. I began my private practice in 1999 providing outpatient psychotherapy. I strive for a wholistic approach that integrates health, wellness and faith both in my daily life and in my counseling practice.
Life is about the journey as well as the destination.
Blessings in your journey,
